O’Neil Outar

Interim Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement


As Interim Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, O’Neil Outar is responsible for leading the University's fundraising and alumni relations programs outside of the School of Medicine and the schools of the health sciences.

Outar has worked for more than 20 years in academic fundraising, most recently at Harvard University. While there, Outar raised $2.5 billion for the Campaign for Arts and Sciences within the $6.5 billion Harvard Campaign. Previously, he served as vice-president in the University of Alberta’s Office of Advancement, senior director of Global Initiatives at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and as director of the Fund for Arts, Sciences, and Engineering in the Office of Development at his alma mater, Tufts University.

He has significant experience in working in partnership with academic and administrative leaders, donors and volunteers in complex research-intensive environments with the aim of creating and implementing novel fundraising programs.

Outar was born in Guyana and named in honor of his father’s favorite Australian cricketer, Norman O’Neill. He holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts in urban and environmental public policy, both from Tufts University.
